How It Works
At Books for Keeps, we know that literacy-rich environments start with access to great books. And we know that the story doesn't end there.
Starting with Book Access
Books for Keeps was established with a core belief in mind: by creating open, equal access to books, we allow children the opportunity to connect the joy of reading with the thrill of discovery by coauthoring positive experiences they can forever associate with learning.

Since starting as a volunteer-led, grassroots program in 2009, Books for Keeps has distributed more than 1,195,000 books to children, teachers, fellow peer agencies, and other individuals in Georgia through its flagship program Stop Summer Slide, community-based events, book donations, and the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Clarke County.
Supporting the rest of the story
Since 2022, Books for Keeps has committed to expanding book access and literacy support for younger readers through our Pre-K Book Bundle Program and
deepening our impact by engaging our community in supporting literacy through opportunities like the
Literacy Mentors Program.
