5,500+ students are taking home books for keeps to read this summer
That's a wrap for BFK's book distributions in the 2024-25 school year! This spring, our staff has been working alongside over 700 volunteers to pack books at our BFK Warehouse and deliver them to elementary school sites across our community for our Spring Book Distribution events in April & May. At these events, every student at every school site has the opportunity to browse through hundreds of brand new, age-appropriate titles and select up to 12 FREE books to take home for keeps, one for each week of the summer.
This year, 5,563 elementary students across 16 Georgia elementary schools took home 68,796 books for keeps! This would not be possible without the support of our community, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to:
School partners including principals, teachers, and media specialists who help coordinate days and times for these events to ensure that every class gets the opportunity to select books
The hundreds of volunteers who show up all year long to the warehouse and throughout the spring at school sites to help connect kids with books they are excited about
BFK's community of donors who give throughout the year, making it possible for us to purchase enough books for every child to take home a big tote bag full of reading material they are excited about (and to make sure we have the books that students have requested!)
And last but certainly not least, thank you to the thousands of students that we get to meet every year! We love getting to see your excitement about that just-right book and hear your plans for summer reading - spending these weeks with you is one of the very best parts of our year!
