Hey ya’ll! It’s been a busy and wonderful summer at Books for Keeps! Read on for highlights and updates.
June Highlights
BFK moved into its new office space! We are very thankful to be new tenants of First Christian Church Athens and neighbors to Arrow, located on the corner of Dougherty and Pulaski in downtown Athens. Having this space to call our own has opened so many new doors for us as an organization and community partner, and we can’t wait to show you!
The BFK Bookmobile rolled into its first Athfest! It was such a joy to provide free books to kids at our first Kidfest and celebrate 25 years of this great event with our neighbors!
Books for Keeps welcomed its newest team member, Kelsey Ripley! Kelsey is joining the team as Director of Development & Communications, with a background in both from a Charlotte-based nonprofit. Kelsey is an Atlanta native, former Language Arts teacher, and recently moved back to Athens, GA with her family. We’re excited to have her aboard!
Our team enjoyed a day of team building in Atlanta, honoring our core value of Connection and attending a Braves game as 2022 Atlanta Braves Foundation grantees!
July Highlights
Books for Keeps was invited to both attend and present at this year’s Annual Governor’s Summit on Early Language and Literacy! We were also honored to receive an award for our Literacy Program.
Our team had a great time (and braved some eventful weather!) at the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Midyear event hosted in Winterville, GA! We had a great time connecting with other professionals in the area and are grateful to be a part of such a passionate community.
The BFK Bookmobile traveled to Atlanta for its first Atlanta Hustle game! Every attendee was new to Books for Keeps and got to experience book joy with us!
August Highlights (with more to come!)
Books for Keeps received an incredibly generous donation of used books from Whitehead Road Elementary! Volunteers joined us in the warehouse to process hundreds of books for redistribution through our Stop Summer Slide Program, the BFK Bookmobile, and the Community Book Fair. Thank you!
The BFK Bookmobile traveled to Stroud Elementary and Fowler Elementary for Back-to-School Events! Our team had so much fun spreading book joy to students and families as we begin a new school year here in Athens, GA.
In partnership with the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, BFK was honored and delighted to host a ribbon cutting event at its new office space. THANK YOU to our BFK friends and family who joined us in celebrating this meaningful event!
Thanks for helping us continue to inspire joy and love for learning through books! Together, we are building literacy-rich communities here in Athens, GA and beyond!
